For the first time in its 40-year history, the legendary Sting event, set for Boxing Day at Jamworld, was canceled just hours before it was scheduled to begin. Known for overcoming past challenges like severe weather, this cancellation marks an unprecedented moment for the iconic festival.
Isaiah Laing, head of Supreme Promotions Ltd., shared his disappointment, highlighting the widespread impact. “Hundreds of vendors, dozens of performers, and thousands of fans are affected. This was beyond my control,” Laing explained.
The cancellation stemmed from a dispute with Clearsound Production Services Group, responsible for stage and sound. Despite a $1 million deposit and a $6.5 million transfer earlier this week, delays due to public holidays prevented the funds from clearing in time. Clearsound cited "material breaches" of the contract and withdrew their equipment from the venue.
Sting 2024 was slated to feature acts like Tommy Lee Sparta, Pablo YG, and Shane O, alongside rising stars Jeff Fullyauto and Inpha Reblitive. Fans and performers expressed their disappointment following the announcement, which came via Sting's official Instagram page on Thursday afternoon.
