Dancehall artiste Shawn Storm has addressed criticism surrounding a recent gift he received from his longtime friend and collaborator, Vybz Kartel.
The critics started when outspoken selector Foota Hype publicly criticized Kartel for gifting Shawn Storm what he described as a "small" Japanese BMW, stating that the artiste deserved a more luxurious vehicle like a BMW X5 or X6.
Foota’s comments sparked debate after he suggested the car was inadequate for Shawn Storm’s stature in the music industry, adding that the artiste also deserved a house to match his success. He even questioned the strength of the bond between the two artists.
Shawn Storm wasted no time responding to the backlash. Through a post shared by MC Nuffy, Shawn defended both the gift and his friendship with Kartel. He revealed their decades-long bond, which predates their music careers, and explained that he personally wanted the BMW that Kartel gifted him.
Addressing his critics directly, Shawn Storm didn't mince words, accusing them of wishing he and Kartel were still imprisoned. He also called out what he saw as jealousy and bad-mindedness, urging critics to celebrate his freedom and success instead of tearing him down.
“I’m the one who wanted the BMW,” Shawn Storm said. “Unuh fi glad seh wi deh a road and stop bad mind wi. Unuh a guh see another car next year and a van before the year done. Unuh eva buy unuh friend a bicycle yet?”
The artiste ended his message with a warning to critics not to push him back into his darker past, signaling his intent to focus on his career and the opportunities ahead.
