Grammys 2024: Shenseea and Vybz Kartel Among Best Reggae Album Nominees

 

The 2024 Grammy nominees for Best Reggae Album have been revealed, and the competition includes a mix of veteran and rising stars. Shenseea celebrates her first solo Grammy nomination with Never Gets Late Here, while Vybz Kartel marks a major career moment with his first Grammy nod for Party With Me, released shortly after his release from prison this year.

The Grammy criteria for this category require albums to feature over 75% new reggae recordings, placing a spotlight on originality in reggae music. Vybz Kartel’s nomination for Party With Me, released in May, represents a turning point for the artist, who was released from prison in July after winning his appeal and overturning his conviction.

For Shenseea, this nomination is especially meaningful, as Never Gets Late Here is her second studio album, showcasing collaborations with stars like Wizkid, Masicka, and Anitta. Reacting to the news on Instagram Live, Shenseea tearfully expressed her gratitude to fans and collaborators, sharing that she had long dreamed of her own Grammy recognition. “I told myself I wasn’t going to go to the Grammys until I got my own nomination,” she said. “It’s so crazy… I’m so happy but I can’t stop crying.”

Released in May 2024, Never Gets Late Here spans genres from R&B and dancehall to Afrobeats and Latin, embodying Shenseea’s range as an artist and bringing a fresh sound to reggae.

Both Shenseea and Vybz Kartel now stand alongside the other nominees, each contributing to the diverse world of reggae with their unique styles and stories.

The Grammy Awards will announce the winner in February, and fans are eagerly awaiting to see if either Shenseea or Vybz Kartel will take home the title.
