Vybz Kartel has always been selective about the artists he praises, but since his prison release, he’s consistently shown love for Skillibeng and Spice.
Recently, the Dancehall icon revealed his top five lyricists "from his time until now" during an interview on The Brando Music Review show.
The list included Chronic Law, Skillibeng, Assassin, and Aidonia. However, when it came to naming a fifth artist, Kartel hesitated, which sparked conversations among fans online. Many felt that Masicka should have been on the list.
Kartel later addressed the discussions during a TikTok live session, where he officially added Masicka as an “honourable mention.” He said, “Big up Masicka, my dawg dem affi live,” and confirmed, “Donia, Sassin, Law Boss, Skillibeng, Masicka… mi dog dem affi live!”
Kartel also took a moment to shout out his longtime friend and fellow artist, Mavado, saying, “David a mi bredda that.”
