Tyrese Gibson Taken Into Custody for Child Support Dispute

Tyrese Gibson, well-known for his roles in movies like Fast & Furious and his successful music career, has found himself in hot water over a child support case. The actor and singer, who shares a 5-year-old daughter, Soraya, with his ex-wife Samantha Lee, appeared in Fulton County court this Monday to address ongoing child support issues. Unfortunately for Tyrese, the hearing didn't go as he had hoped.

According to a report from TMZ, Judge Kevin Farmer expressed frustration with Tyrese’s refusal to comply with a court order that required him to pay $10,000 per month in child support starting in April 2023. The judge, fed up with Tyrese's noncompliance, held him in contempt of court. Tyrese was then handcuffed by the bailiff and escorted out of the courtroom.

There is, however, a way for Tyrese to avoid further jail time. Judge Farmer stated that Tyrese could resolve the issue by paying $73,000, which includes $7,500 for his ex-wife’s attorney fees.

Tyrese had seemingly anticipated this outcome. The day before his court appearance, he posted on Instagram, calling out Samantha's legal actions and maintaining his innocence. He suggested that their prenuptial agreement from their 2020 divorce should have settled all financial matters.

Tyrese also criticized Samantha’s legal team for not reviewing his bank statements, claiming that if they had, they would see he had been paying child support. Instead, he said they relied on his IMDb credits to view him as a financial "cash cow."

It is worth noting that Tyrese had been making payments, but the $2,200 per month he was contributing fell significantly short of the court-mandated $10,000. Tyrese and Judge Farmer have had their share of clashes in the past, with a particularly contentious court battle occurring in 2022.

As of now, sources indicate that Tyrese is working on making arrangements to pay the $73,000 in order to secure his release from custody, so it is unlikely he will remain behind bars for long.
