A tragic mass shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, left four people dead and 17 others injured over the weekend. The incident took place in the bustling Five Points South entertainment district, outside the popular Hush Hookah and Cigar Lounge.

Several individuals are huddled around a person on the ground, offering assistance in the middle of a street at night. Emergency lights are visible, with onlookers and vehicles in the background. The chaotic scene suggests the moments following an incident.

According to witnesses, several shooters arrived in a vehicle and unleashed gunfire using weapons modified to fire rapidly. The victims include Anitra Holloman, 21; Tahj Booker, 27; Carlos McCain, 27; and Roderick Lynn Patterson Jr., 26. Police recovered over 100 shell casings from the scene.

Authorities believe the shooting was a targeted murder-for-hire plot, with one of the deceased possibly being the intended victim. Despite the widespread injuries, investigators suggest only one person was the actual target. Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond stated, “Someone was willing to pay to have that person killed.”

Sadly, this wasn’t the only violence in Birmingham over the weekend. Another shooting elsewhere in the city claimed one more life.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin condemned the rise in gun violence, calling it an "epidemic" affecting not just the city but the nation. Police are actively searching for the suspects, with more updates expected during an upcoming press conference.
