A tragic incident occurred in Muaro Jambi, Sumatra, Indonesia, where a 57-year-old woman named Hapsah lost her life after being attacked by a 16-foot python while working on a rubber plantation. Hapsah was performing her regular task of tapping rubber trees when she was suddenly ambushed by the enormous snake. The python, attempting to constrict and swallow her, overpowered her despite her efforts to fight back. The snake wrapped tightly around her body, causing her to lose consciousness due to lack of oxygen.
Hapsah’s husband, M Safri, who also worked at the plantation, became alarmed when she didn’t return home that afternoon. Worried about her safety, he began searching the area and was horrified to find the python still coiled around her neck. In a desperate attempt to save his wife, M Safri pulled on the snake’s tail and struck it repeatedly until the snake eventually released her. Unfortunately, Hapsah had already succumbed to the attack.
Sungai Gelam Police Chief Iptu Usaha Sitepu confirmed the details of the incident, noting that M Safri’s quick actions likely prevented the snake from swallowing Hapsah, but the python’s strength had already caused her death.
