A shocking incident at a youth basketball game over the weekend has sparked a police investigation. A 13-year-old player violently stomped on an opponent's head during the match, leaving the victim with a concussion and raising serious concerns about violence in youth sports.

The confrontation occurred on Sunday during a game between Payton's Place and Tumakbo United at the College of Alameda in California. The players were competing intensely for the ball when a 13-year-old athlete from Tumakbo United fell to the ground. In a shocking turn of events, a player from Payton's Place suddenly intervened, stomping on the downed player’s head with considerable force.

Officials reacted swiftly. A referee quickly restrained the Payton's Place player, and a coach assisted in escorting him off the court. Despite the immediate response, the damage had been done.

The mother of the injured player reported that her son had suffered a concussion from the attack. She told ABC 7, "You could clearly see the size of his shoe on his face," highlighting the severity of the blow. Meanwhile, the family of the player who did the stomping defended his actions, claiming he was protecting a teammate who he believed was being attacked during the scramble for the ball.

Tumakbo United, a Filipino-American team with players from across the country, made it clear that they do not believe race played any role in the incident. Their focus remains on the well-being of their player and the broader implications for sportsmanship and safety in youth sports.

In the wake of the incident, the family of the injured player filed a police report, prompting an official investigation. Payton's Place responded with a public apology, stating, "The behavior that was exhibited by our player is not acceptable and is being taken seriously. We do not condone violence."

They emphasized that their players are expected to behave with integrity both on and off the court. The organization also mentioned that both teams are working together to address and resolve the matter. As part of their response, Payton's Place announced on Tuesday that the player involved in the incident is no longer with the team.
