Surfing Legend Tamayo Perry Dies in Shark Attack in Hawaii

Renowned surfer Tamayo Perry, known for his appearance in the fourth 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie, has tragically passed away. Authorities confirmed that Perry died on Sunday following a shark attack in Oahu, Hawaii. His body was discovered by local surfers off Mālaekahana Beach, with reports indicating that his arm and leg were missing.

The attack was witnessed by a bystander near Goat Island on Oahu's North Shore, according to Honolulu's emergency services. The incident occurred around 1 PM while Perry was taking a break from his duties as an ocean safety lifeguard. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi praised Perry, calling him "a legendary waterman." Perry's achievements in the surfing world are well-known, including his victory at the Pipeline Masters surfing competition in 1999. Kurt Lager, Honolulu's ocean safety chief, expressed a similar sentiment, noting Perry's infectious personality and his deep love for others.

Tamayo Perry leaves behind his wife, Emilia. He was 49 years old. His passing is a significant loss to the surfing community and all who knew him.
