Howard University has taken a significant step in response to the recent release of a disturbing video involving Sean "Diddy" Combs. On Friday, the university's Board of Trustees announced that they are revoking Diddy's honorary degree. This decision follows the public release of a video showing Diddy's 2016 assault on his then-girlfriend, Cassie, inside a Los Angeles hotel.
Diddy was awarded an honorary degree from Howard University in 2014. However, the university has now declared that his actions are "so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University’s core values and beliefs" that he no longer deserves this honor. As a result, Howard University is also removing Diddy's name from all documents listing him as an honorary degree recipient.
The repercussions don't end there. The university is also disbanding a scholarship program that was named after Diddy, returning a $1 million contribution he made, and terminating a 2023 pledge agreement with his foundation.
The video, which surfaced recently, shows a brutal assault on Cassie by Diddy in a hotel hallway, an incident that was detailed in her lawsuit against him. Although Diddy has apologized for the incident, the release of the footage has led to significant fallout.
This decision by Howard University comes at a time when this year's graduates are celebrating their achievements. Meanwhile, Diddy is facing mounting legal troubles and a potential indictment. The university’s decisive actions underscore their commitment to upholding their core values and maintaining the integrity of their institution.
