In a startling event captured on video, a Virginia state trooper was knocked to the ground after a drunk driver slammed into her patrol car during a separate DUI stop. This dramatic scene unfolded on Interstate 495 in Fairfax County and highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face on the job.
Trooper C. Aziz was on duty responding to a report of a sedan stopped in a lane on the busy interstate. Dashcam footage from her patrol car shows Aziz at the driver's window, attempting to coax the driver to exit the vehicle or move it to the shoulder. Suddenly, a Jeep Cherokee crashed into her patrol car from behind. The impact sent Aziz flying and left her patrol car heavily damaged.
Despite the force of the collision, Trooper Aziz quickly got back on her feet, though she could be heard letting out a cry of pain. Photos taken after the incident reveal the extent of the damage to her patrol car, which was significantly wrecked.
Emergency services transported Aziz to Fairfax INOVA Hospital for evaluation. Thankfully, authorities reported that she sustained only minor injuries. The driver of the Jeep was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence of alcohol.
THIS is what impaired driving does. #VSP Trooper C. Aziz, amazingly, didn't end up w/any broken bones, but she still has a long road to recovery after a DUI driver slammed into the back of her patrol car while she was stopped out w/a DUID driver on I495 in FFX Co. on 6/11/24 . pic.twitter.com/Lfb1fI8awl
