Diddy Returns Key to the City Amid Controversy

In a significant turn of events, Sean "Diddy" Combs has returned the Key to the City of New York after Mayor Eric Adams requested its return. The request was made in light of a disturbing video that surfaced, showing Diddy assaulting his former partner, Cassie.

According to TMZ reports are that two letters were sent to Combs' offices in New York and Los Angeles. In these letters, Mayor Adams expressed his deep disturbance over the Cassie video. He emphasized that the Key to the City is awarded to individuals who exemplify model citizenship, a standard that the selection committee now believes Diddy no longer meets.

Mayor Adams stated his support for survivors of domestic abuse and mentioned that the committee had recommended rescinding the key. The letters included an address where the key could be mailed back. According to sources cited by TMZ, the letters were sent on June 4, and Diddy responded by returning the key on June 10.

Despite the return of the key, Diddy's name remains in the city's log of Key to the City recipients. However, it now carries a note stating: "This Key to the City was rescinded by Mayor Eric Adams on June 4, 2024, via a formal letter due to actions of domestic and gender-based violence committed by Mr. Combs."

Diddy had received the honor less than a year ago, proudly posing with Mayor Adams in September. Allegations against him began to surface shortly after, starting with Cassie's lawsuit in November.

While Diddy has consistently denied any wrongdoing, he admitted to assaulting Cassie and apologized after the video was released. He continues to face multiple sexual assault lawsuits and is under federal investigation for alleged sex and narcotics trafficking, among other serious charges.
