Tragic Incident at Presidential Campaign Rally in Mexico

A devastating incident occurred in Mexico on Wednesday when high winds disrupted a presidential campaign rally, leading to the collapse of the stage and resulting in the tragic deaths of nine individuals.

The harrowing event unfolded on camera during a campaign rally for presidential candidate Jorge Álvarez Máynez in a city near Monterrey. As Álvarez Máynez and his supporters energized the crowd, a sudden and powerful gust of wind tore down a large video screen positioned at the back of the stage.

Chaos ensued as Álvarez Máynez and his team scrambled to take cover, and the scaffolding and screen came crashing down. The crowd, gripped by panic, began to flee, although some onlookers continued to film the unfolding disaster with their phones. Amid the ongoing ferocious winds, attendees desperately sought safety under the collapsed tent structure.

Samuel García, the Governor of Nuevo Leon state, confirmed the fatalities in a post on X (formerly Twitter), noting that one of the deceased was a minor. Initially, 54 people were reported injured, with conditions ranging from stable to requiring surgery. Unfortunately, the number of injured has since increased to 121.

In the aftermath, the area was secured, with heavily armed security personnel monitoring the situation closely to ensure safety and order. In a gesture of solidarity and respect for the victims, Álvarez Máynez announced the suspension of all campaign activities.
