NYC Councilman Erik Bottcher Demands Diddy's Key to the City Be Revoked

NYC Councilman Erik Bottcher is calling for the revocation of Diddy’s key to the city, taking a much firmer stance than Mayor Eric Adams. This comes in the wake of a troubling video involving Cassie that has sparked widespread outrage.

In an interview on "TMZ Live" Wednesday, Bottcher stated that rescinding the honor is a "no-brainer" given the circumstances. He emphasized that Diddy does not belong in the same esteemed company as figures like Nelson Mandela, who received a key to the city in 1990. Bottcher remarked, "It would be bad enough if it was just the video, but [Diddy] put out a statement before accusing these women of lying, accusing them of looking for a payday. So, it's despicable and consequences need to follow."

This position contrasts sharply with that of Mayor Adams, who, while expressing that he was "deeply disturbed" by the video, stopped short of taking a definitive stance on the matter. Mayor Adams had previously praised Diddy as "a New York City kid who made good" when he awarded him the key to the city back in September.

The controversy has grown since Cassie sued Diddy, alleging that he had abused and sexually assaulted her during their relationship. Although Diddy denied the allegations, the lawsuit was settled out of court shortly after it was filed. Since then, Diddy has faced several additional sexual assault allegations and is now under a federal sex trafficking investigation.

Councilman Bottcher’s direct approach reflects a growing demand for accountability and action in light of the serious accusations against Diddy. While Mayor Adams has yet to take a definitive position, Bottcher’s call for revocation highlights the stark differences in their responses to this sensitive and high-profile issue.
