Boxing legend Mike Tyson is recovering after an ulcer flare-up during a cross-country flight, which was severe enough to prompt airline staff to seek medical assistance from passengers onboard.
The incident took place on a Saturday flight from Miami to Los Angeles. As the American Airlines flight neared its destination, Tyson began experiencing significant discomfort. His symptoms, including nausea and dizziness, appeared about 30 minutes before landing. The flight attendants, recognizing the seriousness of his condition, called for any medical professionals on the flight to assist.
A representative for Tyson told TMZ, "He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing. He is appreciative of the medical staff that were there to help him." Once the plane arrived at LAX, paramedics boarded and treated Tyson on the spot. The incident was initially reported by In Touch Weekly.
Interestingly, most of the passengers were unaware that the person in distress was Mike Tyson. They only realized there was a medical emergency when a call for a doctor or nurse appeared on their in-seat screens, followed by an announcement over the PA system.
The flight itself had been delayed by two hours, but Tyson’s representative clarified that this delay was due to a mechanical issue and not related to Tyson’s health. Upon landing, passengers experienced a further 25-minute delay as paramedics attended to Tyson.
Currently, the 57-year-old Tyson is in the midst of training for his upcoming July boxing match against Jake Paul. Despite the scare, according to TMZ, the representative assured that Tyson is doing "great" now.
