Diddy Issues Apology After Release of Disturbing 2016 Hotel Video

Diddy recently issued a video apology in response to a disturbing video from 2016 that has surfaced, showing him in a violent altercation with his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. The video, published by CNN, has caused a significant backlash within the hip hop community.

The footage shows Diddy, clad in a towel, chasing Cassie down a hallway at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles. He eventually catches up to her, pushes her to the ground, kicks her, and drags her back to his room while yelling at her. This incident has led to widespread condemnation from both fans and celebrities.

In his apology video posted on Instagram, Diddy acknowledged that this period in his life was very dark. He admitted that his actions in the video were inexcusable and said he has since sought professional help. Although he did not mention Cassie by name, he expressed remorse for his behavior.

“Reflecting on the darkest times in your life is tough, but sometimes necessary,” Diddy said. “I was in a bad place. I hit rock bottom — but that’s no excuse. My actions in that video are inexcusable. I take full responsibility and am disgusted by what I did.”

He added, “I was disgusted then and I’m disgusted now. I sought professional help, started therapy and rehab, and asked for God’s mercy and grace.”

The incident reportedly occurred in March 2016. The InterContinental Hotel, now closed, allegedly received $50,000 for the video footage. How CNN obtained the video is still unclear, but speculation suggests it was leaked by law enforcement after the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office stated that the video fell beyond the statute of limitations for prosecution.

Some, including 50 Cent, believe the video was leaked to allow public judgment since legal action was not possible. This leak has had severe repercussions, with many of Diddy’s supporters distancing themselves.

50 Cent criticized Diddy’s apology, writing, “This is not going to work, who is advising him right now? SMH bad move.”

Fans also voiced their discontent. One comment read, “The damage you did runs too deep. Cassie may be traumatized for life because of you. Your apology means nothing.”

In November 2023, Cassie filed a lawsuit against Diddy, citing the 2016 incident. The lawsuit alleges that Diddy, intoxicated at the time, followed Cassie into the hallway while yelling at her and threw glass vases at her, causing them to break.

In a statement on December 6, Diddy denied the allegations, saying, “I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family, and the truth.”

The impact on Diddy’s career and personal life remains to be seen. The hip hop community and the public will be closely watching for further developments.
