Millions Across the Globe Commemorate Eid al-Fitr Festivities

Muslims around the globe came together to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the joyous occasion marking the end of the sacred month of Ramadan. The festivities were characterized by prayers, joyous reunions with family and friends, donning new garments, and indulging in delectable sweets. However, this year's celebrations were overshadowed by the deepening humanitarian crisis unfolding in the Gaza Strip, compounded by Israel's looming threat of a ground offensive in Rafah, amidst an enduring six-month conflict.

In Istanbul, a sea of worshippers converged at the historic Hagia Sophia mosque for the morning Eid prayers. Among them, many brandished Palestinian flags and fervently chanted slogans in solidarity with the besieged people of Gaza. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his Eid message, voiced steadfast support for Gaza, characterizing it as a "bleeding wound on the conscience of humanity." He expressed heartfelt hopes that the auspicious occasion of Eid would usher in a period of peace, tranquility, and prosperity not only for his country and the Islamic world but for all of humanity.

Similarly, in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi, prayers at the Rahma mosque were imbued with solemn reflections on the dire situation unfolding in Gaza. The congregation joined in collective supplication, praying for an end to the suffering and for lasting peace to prevail in the region.

Meanwhile, in Malaysia, where ethnic Malay Muslims gathered at mosques nationwide to offer prayers, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim delivered a poignant Eid message. He called for unity and reconciliation, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and the rejection of any form of discrimination, whether based on religious affiliation or any other pretext.

As Muslims worldwide marked the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr, the spirit of solidarity and compassion resonated deeply amidst the somber backdrop of the ongoing crisis in Gaza. Across continents, the call for peace, justice, and unity echoed, reaffirming the shared humanity and interconnectedness of all people.
